The tasks include: • Search for various kinds of information (texts and pictures) • Design a poster • Polish up the poster • Make a presentation Step 5 Presentation and assessment Pay attention to the following points: • Speak clearly and confidently. • Make eye contact with the audience. • Talk at a proper speed and pause when it is necessary to give your audience time to think about what you have said. • Keep your facial expressions relaxed and friendly. 三、导学&导练： Step 1: Choose the proper size and orientation for your poster. ž Consider the location of the poster, that is, where you are going to put up the poster, before you decide on the size. ž Posters can be designed vertically or horizontally, but are most commonly designed with a vertical orientation. Step 2: Put together all the necessary information. žPearl S. Buck (1892–1973), with a photo of her ž Famous sayings: “All things are possible until they are proved impossible and even the impossible may only be so, as of now.” ž “Many people lose the small joys in the hope for the big happiness.” ž Life story: She lived in Zhenjiang during her early life, started writing in 1922, taught English literature in Nanjing ad returned to the USA in 1935. ž Most famous works: The Good Earth (1931), Sons (1932), A House Divided (1935), All Men Are Brothers (1933, a translation of the Chinese classic novel Shuihuzhuan), with images of the book covers. ž Achievements: She won the Pulitzer Prize in 1932 and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1938 (the first American woman to win the prize). Step 3: Sketch out your design on a regular piece of paper. ž You can use a piece of paper in a regular size to try your design, and then scale your design. Focus on emphasizing the most important information, and use colour and other skills to create contrast. ž You can use a computer-based painting or drawing programme to design your poster, even if you plan to eventually draw it by hand. Step 4: Polish up your poster. ž The accuracy of the information ž The accuracy of the spelling and grammar ž The style of ž the poster Some tips on poster design. (1) Tip 1: Key information should be easy to read from a distance to draw people to the poster and create a hierarchy in the text. (2) Tip 2: High contrast between elements can help you grab people’s attention at the first glance. (3) Tip 3: Leave proper space on the poster.
